Back in the years when Singapore was the central of business, coolie's cheap labour contributed greatly to the island’s growth and development. They were the backbone of modern Singaporean Society. The humbleness of the coolies is reinterpreted into a god figure, painted with the iconic twakow’s face and eye as it was believed it enables to see danger ahead.
